NHL: In a stunning NHL move, the Los Angeles Kings traded Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washington Capitals for goalie Darcy Kuemper. Dubois, a 25-year-old center, amassed 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 82 regular-season games for the Kings this season.
Even though Dubois is talented, this is the third time he's been traded, which raises doubts about his reliability and commitment.
Bryan Hayes͏ imparted h͏is unfi͏ltered reacti͏on to Jay Onrait, featuring the under͏lying issues͏ with Duboi͏s.
"All things considered, I think it says a great deal, Jay, and I don't think it expresses positive things. This trade is another indictment of Pierre-Luc Dubois." Hayes commented.
He explained Dubois' true capacity, saying:
"This is a ͏guy ͏who has immense͏ ability. He͏ went third over͏all to Colum͏bus. He’s a guy that when he wants to play, he can score, fight, skate, and hit—he's a true playmaker and an absolute star."
However, Hayes pointed out the inconsistency that has plagued Dubois’ career: “The problem is he’s far too inconsistent. I think he ran out of time in Columbus, and he ran out of time in Winnipeg,” he said.
Thinking about the Kings' quick choice to exchange Dubois after only one season, Hayes noted:
"They sign him for an eight-year contract worth $8.5 million, then announce they're done. We've got to find an exit from this."
Hayes got straight to the point about the brutal reality Dubois faces:
"After experiencing a full year in LA, the Kings concluded that he needed to depart from the city." He finished up with a preventative note for the Capitals:
"I think Washington will eventually catch wind of this." Despite his 342 career points and 27 playoff points, Pierre-Luc Dubois' excursion through the NHL keeps being set apart by neglected assumptions and successive movements.
As he joins his fourth group, the spotlight stays on whether he can at last accomplish the consistency expected to realize his true capacity. GM responses to Pierre-Luc Dubois exchange: Kings concede deficiencies, Capitals hopeful
Los Angeles Kings Head Supervisor Rob Blake and Washington Capitals Senior Supervisor Brian MacLellan shared their points of view on the exchange that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Capitals in return for Darcy Kuemper.
Reflecting on Dubois’ experience with the Kings, Blake conceded on NHL.com, “All things considered, I don’t think I did a good enough job of integrating him into the right roles on the team this year.”
You know, I think it was anything but an extraordinary fit in that viewpoint for us, and we’ll take responsibility for that.
He communicated hopefulness about Kuemper's appearance, expressing:
"I'm absolutely sure our goalie situation is crystal clear because our goaltending staff knows Darcy inside out and has a strong bond with him. I believe teaming him up with David will help stabilize things here for a good few years."
On the opposite side, Capitals GM MacLellan voiced energy for Dubois' expected effect on NHL.com. This procurement gets a capable 25-year-old with colossal potential to turn into a top-level focus in the NHL.
With his size, exceptional skating, and high hockey IQ, we are sure he will flourish in our association with increased responsibility and opportunity.
He expressed confidence that Pierre-Luc Dubois would flourish with increased responsibility. MacLellan also thanked Kuemper for his service, noting the opportunity for Charlie Lindgren to take on a larger role.
