Cory Wharton: Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge have ended their relationship.
The reality stars were together for nine years. Each shared the news in a separate public statement on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Their story began in November 2017. They met while filming MTV's "Ex on the Beach."
They later appeared on "Teen Mom OG." The early days were on and off. The pair made it official in 2019.
Together, they have two daughters. Mila is 6. Maya is 4. Wharton also has a 9-year-old daughter, Ryder, with ex Cheyenne Floyd.
Selfridge Speaks Out
Selfridge, 32, made her position clear. She said she was the one who left. She wrote that she was tired of missing basic respect from the father of her children.
She said anyone could see the strain over the last few years.
"I deserve more than that and I'll get it," she wrote. "End of story."
Wharton Apologizes
Wharton, 35, struck a softer tone. He apologized to Selfridge directly. He said sharing the news publicly was hard.
He also said honesty mattered to him right now.
He pointed to the years, memories and love they shared. He called their two daughters the most important part.
He admitted there were times he could have done better. He said he was sorry for the ways he let her down.
He also made a promise. He said he will "show up" for his daughters "even more."
At the same time, he plans to work on himself. He spoke of learning from mistakes, growing and healing.
A Rocky Stretch on "The Challenge"
The breakup follows a tough period in the public eye. It centered on season 42 of "The Challenge." Wharton was shown flirting with fellow competitor Izzy Fairthorne.
On the show, he admitted he felt drawn to her. He also opened up about trouble at home.
He said things had not been great. He added that the connection felt good.
After the episode aired in September, Wharton addressed the backlash. He said he had already apologized in private to Selfridge.
He said he would keep handling things behind closed doors. He admitted he was not proud of what viewers saw.
He took full blame. He said he was not making excuses. He called his actions selfish.
He said he lost sight of the bigger picture that comes with being in the spotlight.
He also said he planned to seek therapy and stay a loving, present father.
Selfridge Stayed Quiet, Until Now
Selfridge had already hinted at trouble. In August, she acknowledged the couple was struggling.
She chose not to share details. She said she had her feelings but did not want to discuss them online at that time.
Fairthorne Weighs In
Fairthorne later shared her side. She said she and Wharton did not start a relationship after filming.
She said she reached out afterward to check on his daughter. She said they had no contact after that.
She also explained an emotional scene. It showed her in tears over Wharton leaving the competition.
She said the tears were not about the flirtation. She said they were about the situation he was facing at home.
