Jefferson White: Jefferson White is heading back into the Yellowstone universe. The actor, best known as Jimmy Hurdstrom, has joined the cast of "Marshals" Season 2. Paramount confirmed the casting news on Sept. 16.
White's return strengthens the ties between the original "Yellowstone" series and its newest spinoff.
He joins a lineup of returning franchise veterans. Luke Grimes is back as Kayce Dutton.
Gil Birmingham reprises Thomas Rainwater. Mo Brings Plenty returns as Mo. Brecken Merrill also returns as Tate Dutton.
"Marshals" Season 2 premieres Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.
Why Jimmy's Return Matters
Jimmy's story took an unexpected turn near the end of "Yellowstone." During Season 4, John Dutton sent him to Texas's Four Sixes Ranch to sharpen his skills as a cowboy and horseman.
Dutton later let him stay there for good. Jimmy never returned to the show’s core Montana storyline.
Although he made brief appearances in Season 5 — mostly at the Four Sixes Ranch and in the series finale — “Yellowstone” wrapped its run without bringing him back into the main fold.
His comeback in "Marshals" changes that. White said he's eager to step back into the role.
"I'm thrilled to dive into the world of 'Marshals' and continue exploring the American West," White said in a statement.
He also praised the show's cast and crew, adding that "Jimmy and I have been through a lot together."
Paramount hasn't said how Jimmy will factor into Kayce Dutton's storyline.
How Will Jimmy Fit Into Season 2?
Details remain scarce. Season 1 followed Kayce Dutton as he built a career as a U.S. Marshal.
Season 2 raises the stakes, pitting Kayce and his team against Tom Weaver, played by Chris Mulkey.
Weaver is angling to seize what remains of the Yellowstone Ranch, setting up a fresh battle over the Dutton family's land.
Jimmy's ties to the ranch and the broader "Yellowstone" world make him a natural fit for the conflict.
Still, Paramount's announcement stops short of confirming how his arc will connect to the main plot. His return is locked in — the specifics aren't.

Tom Weaver emerges as the primary threat, pushing to claim what's left of the property. Kayce will lean on his fellow marshals to counter the escalating conflict.
Jimmy's return adds another layer, given his deep history with the Dutton family and the ranch itself.
Whether he'll join Kayce's team full-time or appear in a smaller capacity is still unknown.
When Does 'Marshals' Season 2 Premiere?
"Marshals" Season 2 debuts Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. The season follows a first installment that established Kayce's new life as a U.S. Marshal and expanded the "Yellowstone" story beyond its original setting.
Jimmy's return gives the franchise another direct link back to its roots, while the fight over the ranch anchors the new season's central drama.
A Look Back at Jimmy Hurdstrom's Journey
Jimmy Hurdstrom began "Yellowstone" as a green ranch hand, struggling to earn his place among the Duttons and their crew.
His arc shifted when John Dutton sent him to Texas's Four Sixes Ranch to learn the trade properly.
The experience built his confidence and deepened his connection to ranch life. Dutton eventually gave him the green light to settle there permanently.
That decision seemed to close the book on Jimmy's role in the Montana-based main story.
His return in "Marshals" Season 2 reopens it, linking his Texas chapter back to Kayce Dutton's unfolding journey.
