His decision comes after growing speculation about his next move. Pettiford had drawn attention as a possible second-round selection in the NBA Draft.

He was also considered a candidate to enter the transfer portal or test professional opportunities.

The 6-foot-1 point guard from New Jersey made an immediate impact during the 2024–25 campaign.

He emerged as one of the nation’s most exciting young players while coming off the bench.

Pettiford played a crucial role in Auburn’s run to the Final Four. He built a reputation for delivering in big moments and thriving under pressure in marquee games.

His return gives Auburn a significant boost as the program looks to build on last season’s deep tournament run.

Tahaad Pettiford initially declared for the NBA Draft and secured an invitation to the league’s combine. He later decided to return to Auburn for his sophomore season.

While his shooting efficiency dipped, Pettiford took on a larger role in the starting lineup.

He averaged 15.4 points and 3.8 assists per game over the course of the season.

He continued to shine in big moments against top competition. Pettiford scored 27 points in a win over St. John’s at the Players Era Festival.

He followed that performance with 30 points against Arizona in early December.

During the SEC Tournament, he added another standout showing with 28 points against Tennessee.

His ability to perform under pressure remained a consistent strength throughout the year.

Tahaad Pettiford was instrumental in guiding Auburn to the NIT championship.

He capped the run with a strong performance in the final, posting 24 points and eight assists in a victory over Tulsa.

Auburn is also navigating a coaching transition ahead of the new season.

Steven Pearl stepped into the head coaching role just weeks before the campaign began and is expected to retain several key players.

Pettiford is likely to be joined again by starting guard Kevin Overton and forward Sebastian Williams-Adams, who saw time in the starting unit throughout the season.

There have been notable roster departures as well. Sophomore wing Elyjah Freeman is one of four players who entered the transfer portal.

In addition, starters Keyshawn Hall and KeShawn Murphy have run out of eligibility and will not be part of the team moving forward.
