Griffin, 19, has finalized a nine-year contract worth $140 million. The agreement was reached just days after he made his Major League debut.

According to team sources, the deal is the most lucrative in franchise history.

It also features performance incentives that could push the total value to $150 million over time.

The former first-round pick is viewed as a key piece of the Pirates’ rebuilding strategy.

The early extension reflects the organization’s confidence in his ability to develop into a franchise cornerstone.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reinforced their long-term vision with the signing of Konnor Griffin.

Owner Bob Nutting said the agreement represents a strong commitment to the franchise and its supporters.

He noted that the deal reflects belief in Griffin’s potential, the current roster, and the organization’s future direction.

The contract was completed less than 24 hours after general manager Ben Cherington suggested the framework for a long-term agreement was already coming together.

He indicated that all key pieces were in place to move forward quickly.

The rapid timeline underscores the team’s determination to secure a foundational player as part of its long-term plans.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Konnor Griffin with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 amateur draft.

The 19-year-old moved quickly through the club’s minor league ranks. He compiled a .333 batting average, along with 21 home runs, 94 RBIs, and 65 stolen bases.

His performance established him as one of the organization’s top prospects.

Griffin narrowly missed the Opening Day roster after being one of the final cuts in spring training.

He was briefly assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis before earning a promotion within days.

Since joining the major league roster, Griffin has made an immediate impact. He recorded an RBI double in his first career at-bat against Baltimore last Friday.

He followed that performance with a multi-hit game, including a two-run single, in a 7-1 win over San Diego. The result marked the Pirates’ sixth victory in their last seven games.

Griffin’s early production has provided a boost to Pittsburgh’s lineup during a strong stretch of play.

Konnor Griffin has signaled a strong commitment to his future with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He has repeatedly expressed his intention to remain in Pittsburgh for the long term.

Inside the clubhouse, Griffin has quickly gained respect for his composure and well-rounded abilities.

Teammates have pointed to his maturity as a defining trait despite his young age.

Star pitcher Paul Skenes, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, said Griffin already carries himself like an established major leaguer.

Griffin, however, has kept his focus on steady development.

He has downplayed the growing attention surrounding his arrival as the team works to regain relevance and end a playoff drought that has lasted more than 10 years.

He said his priority is to stay within his approach and avoid overextending in key moments.

Griffin added that he aims to read each situation carefully and compete pitch by pitch.
