Darnell Mooney Falcons: Veteran wide receiver Darnell Mooney could soon be headed to the open market as the NFL offseason approaches a key deadline.

A report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media indicates that the Atlanta Falcons intend to release the wide receiver. The move has not yet been made official.

With the start of the new NFL league year only days away, Atlanta is expected to explore potential trade options before finalizing the decision.

The team could attempt to find a trade partner willing to acquire Mooney rather than releasing him outright.

If no deal emerges, the veteran receiver would likely be cut and become an unrestricted free agent.

That outcome would allow Mooney to sign with another team once he officially enters the market.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney is scheduled to carry a sizable salary cap hit for the upcoming NFL season.

The Atlanta Falcons currently have Mooney listed with a cap charge of $18.42 million.

That figure could limit the likelihood of another team pursuing a trade for the veteran receiver.

If Atlanta moves forward with a release, the organization would absorb approximately $11 million in dead money.

The Falcons could also choose to designate Mooney as a post-June 1 release.

Such a move would free nearly $12 million in cap space. However, the team would not be able to use those savings immediately.

Mooney showed strong production during his first season with Atlanta. He finished that year with 64 receptions for 992 receiving yards.

His numbers declined during the 2025 season. The receiver recorded 32 catches for 443 yards that year.
